There were high hopes that I would be able to get a post out on this before the official start of the season, but as I watched the first qualifying session I realized that the window was shrinking really fast. A few years ago I got into Formula 1 in a big way. Historically, I had always been interested in cars but never got into motorsport. Like most people in the United States, a little Netflix show called Drive to Survive changed that. I started watching the Grand Prix in 2021, one of the most exciting seasons of Formula 1 ever.
As I got more into the sport, you learn the nuances and everything that goes into making a race weekend happen. Formula 1 has something for everyone. There’s always more you can learn and dig into. Even if the complaints for 2023 were that it was a snooze-fest with Max and Red Bull winning all by one race, there were plenty of other story lines to follow. I even appreciated the sheer insanity of the Max dominance. How did the RB19 wipe the floor with everyone? Is it all technical? Operational? The people? Those are the things that keep me coming back to Formula 1 week after week.
I’m sure at some point in the future, I’ll go into more about F1, but for today I just want to document my predictions for the 2024 season.
- Max Verstappen will win his fourth consecutive Driver’s Championship. However, I don’t think it will be guaranteed until the 19th raise at the United States GP.
- The finishing order for the constuctors will be: Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Aston Martin, RB, Williams, Haas, Alpine, Kick Sauber.
- The drama surrounding Christian Horner will not go away with the report of Red Bull Gmbh clearing him of wrongdoing. I think he’ll still be with the team at the end of the season, but we’ll hear about it every weekend because more things will come to light.
- Silly season is going to be especially insane. At least two drivers will completely lose a seat in F1.
- There will be at least 4 drivers that will win a Grand Prix this year: Max, CLewis, Lando, Carlos.
- Carlos Sainz will outscore Charles Leclerc in his final season with Ferrari.
- Daniel Ricciardo will finish the season with RB, but will be announced for the second Red Bull seat for 2025.
- The sprint format will be updated yet again for 2025.
- I’m going to have a blast watching more of Free Practice and Qualifying.
